Speedy your right those outdoor panels are the most stupid thing in the world, there's a one in four chance the sun beats on them all day. There's always bushes in front of them and cutting them out of a stucco wall sucks!

All this week has been rain or snow.
Rain? Snow? Well, I've read about that stuff. Actually, we get 8" of rain in a wet year. Weather is not an issue for working outside here. Basements are non-existant. Inside panels are in the garage, oftentimes someone builds a shelf in front of it.

Here they can't be buried in stucco. We attach a piece of dimension lumber or siding, primed and painted, to the sheathing, then hang the panel on that. The stucco abuts the siding, not the panel. Stucco against the panel will result in a failure by the poco.

Well that explains some of it then. Our meters have to be outside of course, but normally we don't need a disconnect outside. So here the panels are inside, close to the meter location. Mobile homes and farms have outdoor panels or disconnects. Now our POCO's are installing the new meters which will be read from head quarters rather than by meter readers. We do occasionally still find meters inside the house on old services in the cities. Grandfathered in. Or inside a porch that was added to a farm house, enclosing a meter. Our firefighters will pull a meter or cut the overhead lines. Brave guys with rubber boots and gloves who never heard of arc flash. Our POCO linemen use the meter bypass horns to jumper around the meter before pulling it under load.

We generally order from local supply houses but in a pinch The Home Depot here stocks Seimans, and SquareD Homeline 200 amp, 40 space combination (overhead/underground) all in one panels. Cutler Hammer also makes them but for some reason only available for underground feed lately.

An 125 amp 8 space panel here is only about 30 bucks indoor and 40 for outdoor.

The Home Depot closest to us here charges $135 for a Homeline 200 amp 30 space combination and sometimes will throw in a few single pole 20 amp breakers to boot. My supply house wants more than that and they never throw in breakers.
