I think a 4" round ball will fit through those spindles
Looks nice. Wish I did the same with my kids. They get the rusty sheet metal for walls.

I was going to ask about the permit as well. There was a battle over a tree house in St. Louis (I think), the town harassed the crap out of the owners, eventually ended up in court and if I remember correctly they got to keep it. I'll look for the link and post it if I find.
reveivl,
Nice, I always wanted one of those as a kid.

Found the link, I actually had it bookmarked, it was in Mississippi not St. Louis:
Supreme Court Saves Treehouse !
Link
There was one in St. Louis as well
Link
I hate when Cities/ Towns/Villages abuse their power.

This is the second time I posted this joke but so what...sue me...
A clown walks in to a bar.Goes up to the bartender and says"Give me a tree fort"....Bartender asks "What's in a tree fort?"
Clown says..................."Playboy magazines and cigars"...
Nice job BTW.

Yeah, good thing I'm not raising a pinhead....
Permit? Dang, knew I forgot something, oh well...
When I bought this property back in '82 or so there was this little clump of alders about three feet tall that I looked at and said "One day I will build a tree fort in these trees. Quarter century later, here it is.
Mickeyco, the article you linked to touches on something I have thought of: These trees are still not convinced they are dead yet, but they will get there. Once they do, I'm gonna have to keep an eye on the state of the root system for support. I built it so that I can retro fit a foundation under it when necessary. If the BI doesn't make me take it down first.

Honestly, coming into this thread, I had no idea what this would look like, but I was pleasantly surprised and now I'm incredibly jealous of your son.

is the tree dead? I cut back a large dying maple and 8' of the 40" trunk was left for 1.5yrs until I got around to getting a backhoe in to pull it out. When it was time to dig it out, the root structure had already rotted and the tree easily pushed over.
the tree house looks great-congradulations!

The trees (alder) were alive when I topped them and built the fort. that year they put out all kinds of suckers, so they ain't dead yet. they will die I'm sure, and when they do I guess I retro-fit a foundation.
Thanks for the comments, it now has a zip-line and a swing attached.
The zip line is a hoot!
