A Taste Of What I Have To Deal With...
this is a project that we were hired to take over after the bulding owner decided that his not so "handy man" could not bring it to code...
this place is inside a hotel, it used to serve as the kitchen. when we got there it was already gutted... in other words, if it was in the way it was cut... we were hired to get what he needed to get his CO to pass... he is STILL hiring MORONS to do the non-inspection work (drywall flooring...) OMFG... Lessons learned here, if this is how you meet a client: Haas Const: Hello sir what can we help you with? Builging owner: well i THOUGHT i.... JUST RUN AWAY!!! thinking is not what you do best.... now to the pics... these were taken about a week into us taking over... ![]() this is in a bathroom... whats wrong here? ![]() ![]() A view of a 2hr fire wall we did ![]() Firewall along with some columns we wrapped. and a F ed up floor...

Re: A Taste Of What I Have To Deal With...
we loaned them to the the guy that does it for the hotel. the owner WILL NOT pay for us to do ANY THING!!! right now we have one guy sitting there babysitting.
truth is, i was seeking your thoughts on if you have ever ran into a owner this thick? and come on, would you display a sign if your job looked like this? its already bad our name is on the permit... now a few more pics... these are of the owners 13 year old son had his "handy man" putting down the dance floor.... Anything missing??? And yes our insurance company HAS been out to take pictures also. i have had the owner sign wavers on ALL the work he had done!!! they are not going to sue us in 3 months when this floor fails, and it WILL!!

Re: A Taste Of What I Have To Deal With...
Ok here it is.... If you look CLOSE in the center of the pic... you will see a faint white line, that white line is from the owner finding a better deal on some floor that is just a little thicker than the rest. now as you know it wont "lock" that way... so what they did was cut the "tongue" off the butt side and just glued it to the OSB.
other than that, on the other pics... THERE IS NO PADDING!!! none, the whole floor moves when you walk on it... its a sight to see. im going to try to get some video of it monday. this whole place is a joke.

Re: A Taste Of What I Have To Deal With...
So... Are you sure it's 2" of thinset and not a mudbed? 2" is standard practice.
A lot of pretty ugly stuff there though. That's pretty common for low-quality commercial though. The owners tend to be overextended already, don't appreciate that the low-budget hacks are going to give them a low quality job that really won't last very long. So- you fight them about time, material, cost, methods, pretty much everything. And they're never very happy at the end. Pretty much like working low budget residential, whether for low-income home owners or property managers or developers. |

Re: A Taste Of What I Have To Deal With...
I know what is wrong in the pic with his son putting down the floor. If i'm not mistaken your suppose to put down a underlayment of somekind first.(like some special felt paper or something or some synthetic whatever.
