That would be a thrill for any child that age. Now you need to teach her to stack ICFs with that thing.

The last picture shows the detail how the I beam "stabs" into the 4 x 4 x 3/8" wall columns....the stub is a 3x3 11ga. welded and spaced on the bottom of the beam, Makes this a 1 man job.

If your keeping the day job, you got your hands full being inside by November.

I second the tool pouch for the ladies, they look capable, motivated and supervised... which equals lots of progress.

Here is another view of the ICF wall that will be earth sheltered to the north, and the main beams will be integral with the concrete. The lower roof area is the garage of the new home, 45 feet long by 37 feet wide. Room for the cars, my truck, and my woodworking set up....

Hi, Looks like a very interesting build, we are registered Nudura ICF contractors, its only just beginning to catch on over here, and I think it is a superb way to construct an energy efficent home. However, and maybe i am missing somthing major, when I put my steelworker hat back on, that steel looks mighty light. What kinds of loads are those box-iron uprights going to be carrying, and why did you not go with girder or IPE's? More of a question than a criticism. J

The end beams (low side) are 8 inch, and will get full support, or basically, they are the end walls and will get studded underside. The larger beams, top and lower roof, are 12 x 16 I beams, and the longer, lower roof will get a support column nearly in the middle, the upper roof is 30 feet clear, and the loads are well under "fail". My choice for the uprights, 4x4x3/8, is due to the actual loading per column, about 5 kips, under all adverse loads.

OK, now that makes sense, I just couldnt figure what way you were going from the pics. I lose sleep when I think about some of the skimpy steelwork I've seen done over the years, your cross-members looked good and beefy, but Im no fan of box(rust, buckle resistance etc)as a long term support member, anyhoo, alls good, just makin sure you wern't pulling any funny stuff over there!Keep going so.You have passed this inspection.
