As promised, I am going to post pics of the new home build.
These are of the site, first is the view east, second is the cut for the earth sheltered north wall, and the last is standing against the cut looking southeast. Nick (denick), these look familiar? I started the first dirtwork a year back, now it is at grade, ready for the rough in electric and plumbing.

The water line is done! I cut a path through the trees, and trenched 3+ feet deep. 1-1/2" Sch. 40 line from the well to the home location. Just a few pictures for interest. The first view is my Davis T600 (Case) trencher fighting the sand.....very sandy here. The next are shot back to the home pad from halfway, last is turning 180 and back to the well by the tack room.....you can see my observers. Denick has met these horses.
Monday, I poured the retaining wall footing, and wet set the first course of ICF bloocks, plus, poured the piers (10) that will support the main house. The piers are 44"x 24"X 3 feet deep. There are 2 steel plates with concrete hooks set into the concrete, plus a stirrup (buried out of site) to connect the piers to the floor and cross beams. The squared off end of the ICF's is for the safe room....after all, this is tornado country.
Here are a few from this weekend. This is a steel frame design, and the main frames are 36 wide at the base by 19 feet to the top of the I beam. 15 feet on center. The footprint covers 2160 sq/ft.
And a few more. The ICF wall is going to buried to the north, and the safe room is visible in the far back corner. The different color of the blocks indicate how I never throw anything away. The column attachment is to the weld plates, set in the piers.
This has the potential to be the longest running thread yet, aside from the music game, maybe. I for one, can't wait to see how this project progresses. I wish I had this forum in 1999 when I built my own home. I don't have many pics of that, unfortunately.
Keep the pics coming and don't forget to fill in the blanks along the way.
The object will be to build an energy efficient home, 3165 sq/ft, plus 1665 garage, for less then 80k, complete. The only person I have to pay will be my hvac guy, to set the a/c up, everything else, I will do, thus no labor numbers.
I hope lone, that this is not the longest running thread, but that I have it dried in by late October.
Yes, in Hennessey, and I wasn't taking exception lone....I actually enjoy the progressive threads.....I just need to make more progress...it will be cold weather soon, and I would like to be doing interior work by November.

Well then, get the ladies off of the ATV and into a toolbelt.

Just a disclaimer: I love construction that is "outside" the box of tradition. I told a prospective client that decided not to build with ICF's and go with stick framing, that I would recommend a contractor for them...I just was not interested.
Now...that said, let me see an earth sheltered, or underground, or steel home, and I am all there....ICF's appeal to me...simply because not everyone can or will even try them....and this project, using steel post and beam design, earth sheltered, and definitely not traditional has me pretty excited....
