It looks good, but I have a dumb question. Why didn't you sheath the main roof before you overlaid?

Re: A Small Cut Dormer Roof From The UK

Here in england we dont sheath roofs, all that happens is like a roofing felt/membrame gets laid horizontal across the whole roof, and battens are fixed the same way on top of this then roof tiles(slate or concrete) are hung on the battens..

I know its not my place to answer here but seeing the OP has not come
back.Neo a noggin is what you guys over there would call a blocker.
as for cutting the trusses you can see that the trusses are weathered and the rafters inside of the dormer look like they where added by the OP.That doesn't look like living space up there but just an architectural feature in the roof.Framerman here in Europe not a lot of roof get sheeted, in Germany the only time is when slates are going on the roof.In Luxembourg they have taken this a stage further by sheeting the roof, felt and a counter baton added to create a ventilation space and then the slate batons.Incidentally the slates are not nailed but held in place with a stainless steel hooks that they call crouches. The Luxembourg government subsidize any one getting a slate roof fitted, why not. Shows the valley noggins ( similar to blocking i guess) in place, these help support a pre-formed fibreglass valley which is installed before the tiles. Like billys says, the roof is just a feature not living space. No trusses need to be cut.

the work situation is pretty dire to be honest. i work for a firm that do goverment funded housing and so were still ticking over but very slow compared to how it used to be. i hear theres lots of extensions and loft conversions going on still! prices have been chopped. you can no longer argue over anything and its a rareity that they will pay you day work for anything now.
