My Turn..

Couple of pics of a reception area I did this past fall. Sorry not just carpentry (did the framing, boarding, taping and finishing). Built the the reception desk also in my friends shop. Lots of neat radius stuff with round bulkheads that gradually lowered from one end to the other, etc... Got my brain going a bit . Sorry for the fuzzy pics!!

Re: My Turn..

Sweet! Did you assemble the desk at the shop and move as a single unit or as sections? Looks like it was a big sucker!

Re: My Turn..

Thanx Mac. The reception desk was preassembled in the shop (to make sure everything was tight). Then taken apart in three pieces for transport. It was the only way to fit it in the truck. Thank God, got it to the job site and was able to put it all back together nice and tight with no big problems!!!

I wish I could help you with with the amount to charge for doing custom work like that. My boss does the estimates (with my input) but, I don't have a clue what his markup would be or how much profit he made. He doesn't disclose that info to me. I just see the drawings of what the finished product should look like. I figure out how to actually be able to accomplish the desired result, and build it. The designers who do the drawings show you what they want (but not how to build it). That's the fun part, figuring how to frame it, cover it, and finish it.
This job was nothing compared to others I've done in malls, etc... Built a retail outlet that was crazy (all winding bulkheads, lots of round walls, and intricate millwork). This is a pic of the fitting rooms I built for one store against a rounded wall we built. I fabricated all the jambs and headers in the shop, routered out all the doors to fit the mirrors in the shop, took everything to the job site and installed. I was so nervous the doors wouldn't close properly (consider they are being put in wall with a radius), but after install everything worked fine !! Once again, sorry for the sh*tty pic.
