Re: My Current Job....

They look WAY out of proportion in the photos but they fit the room well. I will get the final shots from the same place I took the before shots. I had alot more photos but the flash overpowered half of the photos and they were all white....

Are you referring to the before photos? That picture mould is gone...it was the builders half assed attempt to make a 6'8" door appear to be a 8' door. That door and window above are being joined together with some trimwork...I am starting that tomorrow..

Re: My Current Job....

Looking up at crown....I was on the floor to get a photo of the front door and noticed I never really looked at crown from this angle....

The start of the front door....

Trimmed opening between kitchen and foyer

Sorta a better photo from the other day.... There is alot of detail that the photo is not picking up with the flash washing things out.
There are two embossed moldings in the photo, one used as edge banding at the MDF cap and the other is built-up on top of another
detailed panel mold. The second embossed molding has a nice rope pattern in it and all that detail really catches your eye and keeps it's attention...
They really are sweet to look at in person...eveyrone that comes into the foyer loves them, and just stares at them...lol
I would love it if we could pull the closet doors and rock over the openings...they are just WAY too out of place there...

Thanks for the compliments, but I can't take all the credit...I am subbed into this job to the GC that taught me alot of what a know from when I worked as an employee for him a few years ago. He is the first carpenter I met that taught me how to thing outside of the box and look at projects in a way where you can see them from start to finish so you know what your building and how to built it. Sounds simple, but the guys before him never really explained that as well as he did. Sorta a minds eye type of thing...

The start of the week or so usally goes with some sort of hazy and vauge explaination of what he has in mind...then a little brain storming goes on back and forth between us and I am left with a solution this is about as "clear as mud" as he says when he walks out the door. So...I execute what we talked about and fill in the blanks as they come up...I love this kind of work...I love the challenge and the creativity of it all..

Re: My Current Job....

Great looking work TBF. I'd hire you anyday! And I'm pretty fussy.

I noticed you have 3 short step ladders. I use those 3 step drywall benches. They're great. Sometimes I'll put 2 of them out and put a plank across.

Don't you just love doing work like this where you get to be creative, not the run of the mill stuff. Keeps me coming back for more.

Re: My Current Job....

That would be the angle...its the same thing as the other photos...

As far as being clean, everyday, at least at the end of the day, the job gets a full clean-up and vaucuum...sometimes I also do it at lunch just to keep things easy going and un-cluttered, but there have been times where it got out of hand when I was really trying to slam out some work...or just got too into what I was doing...lol. That is another thing i learned from carpenters I used to work for...the cluttered ones where always a PITA to work for...the ones who made it clear they wanted everything kept near were a PITA at first...but as I got used to it I have a problem working any other way....It start to bother me...

Re: My Current Job....

Did these throughout the day today... I rough cut them with my jigsaw, then used a pattern and a flush cut router bit with bottom mounted bearing in the router table. Used the pinner to tack the pattern to the rough cut "blank". Then I routed the profile with a dull frued bit. Dull bit and Windsor One PFJ don't mix....

Took alot of prep to get them to where they are now... sand, prime, sand, prime... should have just went to Deep Homo and bought another bit...

I did the routing this morning and the priming and sanding here as I felt like it. All in all I made almost exactly 5 gallons of saw dust doing it...

They are going on the stairs...

Re: My Current Job....

Thanks for taking the time and posting the pics, looks real good. I suspect those huge crowns don't look so out of place when you're standing there taking the context of the whole place in. I know my point and shoot camera takes great pictures but its impossible to get wide shots that take it all in. Is that some type of light behind the fireplace crown?

I took a million photos trying to get things to look as if you are really standing there but it just does not happen...that is how I ended up on the floor taking a photo of the "alcove" looking straight up.

There is a rope light behind the fireplace valance...came out a little dim during the day, but looks pretty sweet at night.
