Mass Condos Kitchen Install

I'm taking a break from the nice seasonal weather we have in winter to install cabinets. I thought "piece o' cake!" Better warm inside than cold outside.

I figured it'd be easier to post a pdf on my website and link it instead of posting a boatload of pics here.

Thanks for an honest look at a comedy of cheapness.

Framerman, I spent some time yesterday looking at all the pics and forgot to reply. You must of been bent that you spent all that time and no replies!

What program do you use to insert the bubbles for text?

It amazes me what these developers and so called builders get away on some of these condo projects.

It's unbelievable that people will line up to buy this crap at ridiculous prices, but they do.

If you have adobe acrobat pro, it is a standard feature.

Re: Mass Condos Kitchen Install

Hehe, I...actually forgot I posted. It's not a problem at all. Massive short term memory loss! Long term has kicked in.

Exactly, acrobat pro. From what I've heard, it's the most underrated program. I've got a mountain of a book on what it does, but don't have time to read any of it.

My understanding though is that Autodesk is gonna trump them with their dwf format. Works pretty good, you get to mark stuff up and best of all....it's free. Used to be for fancy shmansy architects and their associates.

I could go into every condo and show you some awful stuff. Just some whoppers.

Every other room has a soda bottle.....full of pee.
Every other room besides that has a drywall bucket of poop.
Easily some of the worst design planning I've ever seen by an architect.
The subway runs directly underneath about every 2 minutes and the building shakes.
The 9' walls were furred down to 8' so the utility stuff could go in.
A 5'x8' bathroom. Door on the right, walk in, vanity on the left aaaaand a toilet right in front of you blocking your access to the tub.
In my feeble attempt to hang cabinets, I have discovered 3 units with sheetrock screws through the black hot wire to the metal studs. Bzzzzzt. Electrician said he is not juicing the place up himself or his employees.
A one man cabinet installer who is really a framer, is outpacing the rock hangers. They had a one month headstart.
The most expensive unit besides the penthouse suites goes to section 8 (low income)
Cherry cabinets, (fake)cherry doors, (fake)cherry door trim, (fake)cherry base, red oak floating flooring, 4 way sheetrock around the windows. LOL
Vinyl windows.
Temp lighting gets broken every day.
I can't even begin to describe the temp power situation.

Some days, I wonder why I even go back. Many have walked off, many have refused to come back. Yet here I am day after day. Money is good, not great, but it's there and that's what's important to me right now.

I'll take some more shots and post

Re: Mass Condos Kitchen Install

THAT is my favorite thing to hear, because my answer is

"nope, you seem to be doing fine all by yourself" LOL

Yeah, it's non-union. I'll be posting the finish building soon (of cabinet installs)

41 kitchens in 50 days...hopefully. 3 more to go!

Re: Mass Condos Kitchen Install

Well, I finally finished, and I finally took some pictures. I can't take credit for the install for unit 14, but I did install some crown, toe kick, fillers, vanities in the unit.

I started on this project Feb. 8th and finished this last Wednesday. 41 units roughly all this size. many were repeats from floor to floor, so as I went along, these ones got easier. I think I'm an expert installer now LOL.

468 Kitchen cabinets, 54 refrigerator panels, 18 dishwasher panels, 66 vanities, 41 microwaves (don't ask how I got roped into that), knobs and pulls, approx 960 lf of crown, and enough dust to kill an elephant.

And the owner asked if I would be interested in 350 units coming up soon. Ummmm....

Small kitchens. Poor lighting. Decent looking cabinets though.
