PT, The cost wouldve been phenomenal if it was Ipe. I was explaining to the arch. that a 2x4 were 2.75 a ft. He said, "thats not bad". It wasnt registering properly I think until I held up a 1 ft pice of scrap and said,"THIS piece here is 2 dollars and seventy five cents".Grabed another and said the same thing. Then he got a real weird look on his face kinda like and he said "OH, Thats per foot! Oh Man! Thats expensive!"
The HO blew a wad on the back doors, so, cash was getting tight.

Excellent idea! I wouldnt have ever thought of that.

I ended up doing a Drysnap under there later.

This job was off Mt Vernon Rd in Sandy Springs. Low rent area.

Yeah that area is the total slums . We are on the opposite side (northeast) but I'm supposed to have a kitchen redo off Lower Roswell coming up if we can ever get final layout approved.

Excellent. That's what I was thinking too. I haven't used them yet, but they (Kitchler, I believe), make these handsome light fixtures that sit atop of the deck post's. They might have looked nice on the staircase landing and served a useful purpose.

Something like this:

Sorry, fell off the map on this one.

We are on the Roswell side in King's Cove. That is about as far West as I am willing to go. Not real pleased about going that far since traffic is so bad but I have already done a bunch of work for this couple and they have more to come after the kitchen.

Love the Ipe--and love the craftsmanship.

Did you drill and plug the perimeter and ends? I noticed some exposed screws in one of the pics.

Are you going back with 1x IPE to trim out the risers and rims? A cove mold?

The overhang seems a bit wide, just curious.

Not on this one , but I have used something like that before (not as nice as those though). They were solar powered and they did look pretty cool.

I used to go Old Alabama to 141. Its still constipated , but not like 85 and 285. And you get to look at the dried up section of the river.

No, they were hidden under the rail. Ive tried to glue plugs in Ipe before but I couldnt find anything to hold.

No, I left the overhang 1 1/4" past the riser. Its the same overhang as an interior step tread or landing tread.I ran the risers like I used to when doing interior steps, just a bit high, so when the tread goes down, it keeps it pretty tight. If there were any gaps that I didnt like, I would have burnt up a router bit and done that, but,...

Anyway, these pictures are about 2 years old.
Where the hot tub is in the picture, my buddy went back and did an outdoor stone kitchen with granite tops for him. It looks really good now.
