I can't believe it did not collapse
Here are some pics of a job I started today. I am replacing the posts, deck, rail, cornice and adding a beam at the top (never had one). The exisiting posts are a 1x10 box with 2x3's in the corners. The outside of the joist are hanging from a yankee that is nailed to one 2x10 which is nailed to the face of the posts. The span between posts is over 9'. It has been here for 40 years framed this way, been at least 6 years with the props. They framed the roof with jobsite made trusses. They worked fairly well because the roof only sagged 1/2" from left to right.

Looks like the distance between the 3rd and 4th baluster from the left, in the front section on the left, is not spaced the same as the others. B+.
Other than that, nice job for a novice. Glad to see you got lots of help here before you started.

Thanks everyone.
The HO wants to do the windows and siding, but she has a house in Philly to sell in order to be able to. So here's hoping she gets a sale soon. I put Azek facia, returns and water table around the house so she can get the gutters done. She did not have the money to do any more.

I do not understand the comment. The rails are Fairway vinyl and the ballusters are placed in holes cut at the factory.
Novice! WTF...

I remember that opening post, it left me speachless.
Your work looks very clean and true, and it looks like it has always been there, in a good sense. Nice job.

BillD, lighten up. You haven't had enough wine today. I think you may be wound too tight if you didn't catch the flippant aspect of the remark. Damn, I hate having to explain a joke. just in case, nice job.

Ok Mike . You caught me by surprise, (although my post count does not show it) I've been around here long enough I should have known. Thanks.
Thanks Loneframer, I've admired the pics you've posted in the past. Nice stuff!

Thanks, I was surprised when I saw it as well. The front was completely covered by four horrible looking pines. This is the only house in the area that has a second floor front porch like this. The builder built it as a sample home then wound up moving into it, but never built another one like it that I have seen.
