Re: "High End" Stair Rail
I would feel a little better if I knew the original H/O made this mess, but from what I've heard, I think they hired somone.

Re: "High End" Stair Rail
Surprisingly, I am finding these type of issues to be more common in some of the higher end homes than one would think. And from my experiences, most all have been perpetrated by contractors (or hacks).
Can't help but scratch my head on 1) how these guys get their foot in the door, so to speak, to these high end homeowners and 2) how someone who paid close to $1m for a home, does not have due dilligence in screening and hiring a good contractor. |

Re: "High End" Stair Rail
In BillD's particular case, I would not know.
I know from my experience, I know it is from a contractor (more times than not), as I have been doing work down the street, see the neighbors getting work done, work stops, next thing you know the neighbor is asking my customer all kinds of questions, etc, etc...we end up looking at the job, bidding it, and sometimes getting it. |

These guys probably even took their own pics of this for their Portfolio! Looking at that,I can't imagine what horrors lie burried in the walls and under the carpet. Was it a three man crew?

We're not high end up here in the woods. I worked on quite a few high end houses in the Anchorage hillside area and don't recall them there either.

Re: "High End" Stair Rail
That rail just screams " Harry Homeowner".
It has been a while since I have been back east, are those Philly Main Line spacers a new fad? I remember "main lining" made the world look funny. Or so I was told. |

Re: "High End" Stair RailQuote:
I had to fish some stuff through the attic and down into walls and there were several areas where I could not figure out what they had done or why they did it with regards to the framing. The owner I worked for did not have the work done but from what I was told the previous owner had a "so called" contractor do the work. It could very well have been a H/O special though, I do not know for sure. Bill |
