Right now there are screw jacks on top of temporary posts. The logs are Yellow Cedar. They were down for five years before the work on them began so a great deal of shrinkage has already occurred. Some more is expected under load during the construction season, then that should be just about it. All seasonal movement after that.
I wasn't called in for the log work but of course as is always true with log buildings there are a great many details that couldn't be (or at least weren't) anticipated. So I have been hanging off the outside of that thing with the chainsaw doing a little artistic 'license' for flashing details and the like.
Yes, I got into this business building log houses, but it's been years (decades) since I've built one. It's fun to get back into it again, although I have to say it seemed like a lot less work back then!!! Haven't lost that delicate touch with the tip of the bar though.
