Garden Arbor
Built this for my mother at her house in North Carolina this week. I've never done anything like this before so I kind of "winged-it" the best I could. I think it came out pretty damn good if I might say so myself. Next year I'm gonna go for the pergola.
I may have done a few things differently in hindsight. Like instead of putting the 4x4 into the concrete next time I would let the concrete dry and attach metal plates (whatever they're called) to the concrete and then fasten them to the wood. I also would have used a jig to make sure the distances between each post was equal because each one was off my half in or so. Not that big of a deal but a few things I learned along the way. Everything else is obviously level and plumb. A few discrepancies but nothing major.
Materials for this was less than $150 and the wood is all pressure treated. The lattice is held into place by dados cut by a table saw in each of the 2x4's then trimmed out for a finished look even though I used the trimmed pieces as nailers.
Questions, comments?

Nice job, looks real good. Did you surprise your Mom with the project or did she know about it ahead of time?

She knew about it, it was all planned, and I mean every detail. We went over it, and over it again, and over it again after that. Good thing she's my mom because otherwise, well.... I'll keep that to myself.

I have a lot of carpenters tools too. It's a hobby for now. The "scrolls" were made from tracing out a can of WD-40. I saw that on tv once, maybe Tom Silva or Norm.

Looks nice, I know some people that call themselves carpenters who wouldn't do as nice a job.
