Fun with Fir and stone

Howdy, just thought I'd put a couple of pics up for my "mini contract" to complete the mantle for a client. My design, his money...a perfect fit.

I dressed and then distessed some fir I picked up from a local mill and stained to match the existing wood. Then I installed the mantle pieces and finally the ledgestone. I've been doing a lot of commercial grunt work lately so it was nice to get back to something with a little fun involved.

This was my firt attempt at doing a cultured stone...I think it went well.

To top it off the homeowner now wants me to do his wainscott, trim work, and laundry center......good days.

Did you drop a stone on your head?

In all seriousness, a tremendous improvement.

Looking good!
Now build him a proper hearth,
before he sets that rug ablaze.

oops, spelling fixed again.....as for the hearth he seemed to already have a flooring crew coming in which is to tile up something for him. We'll see what they come up with.

Should've known...... the flooring company doesn't want to tile a hearth for him as it is too small a job......even though they are doing the rest of the carpet and lino.

I guess I'll go back one day and figure something out for them.
