Re: A Few Decks I Did
Nice, looks clean. Two things,..The scarf joint on the first pic looks cock eyed and stands out , different color, the band trim. And the main stair on the second pic, was it cut too short?? Cuz it lands on a odd little box thing before the landing?? Nice work, thanks for the posts.

Re: A Few Decks I Did
I did end up changing that board on the first pic because of the color difference drove me nuts. I am pissed at my self for not taking pictures when i was done with the flower beds we built and every thing. On the other deck i cant remember for the life of me what is up with the stairs, i am going to have to stop by there and refresh my memory.

Re: A Few Decks I Did
Nice clean lines... like seeing the fascia, the chamfered beam ends.
I'd stick w/ the method you used on the elevated deck for attaching handrail posts, the other ones have too shallow a connection...not enough bite. Mac |

Re: A Few Decks I Did
Yeah after i did that on the first deck pictured i would have wished i would have done it the other way. I had to run some screws from the inside out to solid it up more. Live and learn.
Thanks MAC

Re: A Few Decks I Did
You did a good job but here's another stronger way to attach hand rail posts: See http://www.ez-stairs.com/postrail_closed.htm . This stair system can take a lateral load of 500lbs.

Re: A Few Decks I DidQuote:
Not bad, but what's the advantage of using to using those instead of Simpson Strong? Are these cheaper? Why would you need a 500lb lateral load? 200lbs is more than sufficient. You can attain 200lbs of lateral load by simply attaching a scab 2x6 at the bottom of each the stringer. If brackets were to be used there would be no need to knotch the stringers to begin with, they can be left as is. Furthermore, if they are already cut another option is to simply cut the treads flush to the knotched stringer and add another stringer to each end as a carriage. Just my 2 cents. I see disregard the previous statement as far as handrails are conerned, I thought that you were referring to stringers. That is actually pretty neat! Great idea. The above still holds true for stringers, so I will leave it. Because knotched stringers alone are no longer allowed in most municipalities. If anyone is interested I can try to post a PDF of the new required details from my own personal library. Last edited by Designbuilt; 02-24-2010 at 05:28 PM. |
