The area in question is our detention area. We have a very odd shaped lot with a creek adjacent. The water detention site might be too steep for something like play ground.

So we're thinking maybe do the exact opposite. Dig the detention site even deeper to below water level and have ourselves a deep pond.
Then maybe build a raised deck around the detention site and place bird houses all around the deck.

This would be all up the engineer and city to see if it would be feasible.

That sounds like a great idea with the deck maybe a few large planter boxes too.
I'm surprised i haven't had any building inspectors here yet.lol

I have had a few large birdhouses up now for almost 3 years and they have survived some pretty wicked storms.

If i were to put one in public i would probably use some type of hurricane ties just for extra precaution.

Cedar Deck

Hi everyone
This is a cedar deck i did a while ago.
I picture framed the top decking and ran the 2x6 on a 45 degree angle to the center.
The overall size is 16 ft x 16 ft.

Garden Shed ( progress pics )

Hi everyone , Here are a few progress pics of my garden shed that i am building.
It is 12' x 10 ' x 14' high.
This shed has 6 roofs, 12 hips ,8 valleys and 15 windows.

I had a few skids of 1/2" x 6" plywood lying around so i used it for the exterior and then i will use 4x8 sheets of Chalet board to finish it off along with 1" rough pine for trim.

Extreme Birdhouses

Hi everyone , it,s been a while since i posted here . I was having problems with my computer and it was taking forever to get on here .Everything seems to be ok now . Here are a few projects that i have been working on .

This first project is made from discarded pine branches that were headed to a fire pit .It is 7 ft square and 13 ft tall.

The next project is my garden shed . It is 10 x 12 x 14 high and has 12 hips , 8 valleys and 13 windows .

This third project is a birdhouse i built for a friend of mine .It is 6 ft x 6ft and 9 ft in the air .

I build two different styles , the large houses are designed for sparrows and swallows because they don,t mind living next to each other in close quarters and the smallers houses like this are for Purple Martins .The holes are much different.

Hey! An artist who understands that form must follow function in certain cases! I am IMPRESSED! Highly impressed. Technically correct artistry? Wow!

Although, I must say I hate English sparrows with a passion. They must die, die, die! LOL (I have been heavily involved with bluebirds and purple martins for many years and my hatred of them comes from that.)

Nice work man. very nice work.

Thanks again 22rifle , i am not exactly a bird lover myself but after building over 40 of these houses i have learned a lot as far as what types of birds they attract . I know a lot of people like Purple Martins more not only because they are nicer looking but they help get rid of bugs . I just like to build them and as long as they keep filling them i,ll keep making them .

Here are a few that are in my yard now .

Wow! The pics with you standing next to them really puts the size of them into perspective! Those are huge! Beautiful work man! How long does one of those large houses take you to build?

Thank you Danno for the nice comments . The large houses take about 2 weeks to build and the small ones 2-3 days each . The largest house with the green roof took me 2 years on and off to design and build . I wasn,t sure what i was building at the time .

I do know that Purple Martins are quite particular about where they roost.

It is a good thing that you are doing by making homes for birds such as these.

Oh! And yes.......Great Craftsmanship.
