Shoot I HAD lincoln logs and I am only 25!. But my favorites were the legos. I had tons and tons. I could play with those things for days on end. Now I use them to make 3D models of decks for clients.

Progress pics

Hi again everyone
Here is an update on one of my extreme birdhouses i am working on now.
this one is 9 ft wide and will be over 7 ft tall.
I am going to do the roof in steel but i could use some advice on the color.
I used about 10 sheets of 3/16 plywood for the guts
It will have 11 different roofs.

Something that beautiful should have a copper roof! (especially if the true color is like the second pic) (but I don't know much about that sort of thing) That is beautiful!!

Two questions. 1 What does something like that run somebody and 2 do poeple really buy those things? No offense, that is pretty cool but I don't know that I would want a shed 10 feet in the air in my backyard.

Hi Ryan
I get people from Canada and USA calling me and asking if i sell them .
I just sold one a few weeks ago.
I don't build them because i have to.
i build them for hobby only.
This size house is not meant for the city.
With some imagination and and a creative mind these houses fit in with nature perfectly. It's just a matter of finding the right setting.
best of all the birds do love them.

Thanks Ryan
I would rather build real houses again but do to physical reasons i can't.
these things are the next best thing for me.
The most i have spent to build one is about $ 100.00
that was for extreme birdhouse # 20.
on average they cost about $ 30.00 to build.
It makes it harder to put a price on them.
I also have a lot of time on my hands
thanks again
john.
I am also in a woodworking contest now on a site called The Router Forums.
i am in second place and really use a few votes.
if you would like to vote please click on the link. you need to register to vote. it only take a few min's.
thanks

I joined and voted for you John, as always your workmanship is incredible... Working with something that small (I guess they are not that small but still)

I also agree that a copper roof would look awesome.

Cranbrook2; Just awesome shure hope you charge them birds enuf rent:}:} However as far as cutting and bending the copper a regular siding brake would do it. Depending how large the sheets would be they make 4' ( yes I saw one but cant find it ) 8',10' and 12'. HD rents the 8' for 45 a day here in NJ.

John,

First congrats on the contest win!!! Even though you had my vote I didn't vote. You easily won anyhow.

I am not sure this question has come up or not but either way here goes.

What does the interior of these bird houses look like???? From the bird point of view that is.

And for erection is there a trick or is viagra used??? Just kidding but what is used to get them on top of the pole.

Also do you have some "open me up" and clean out design built into the construction or is it considered bad taste not to let the tennants do the clean up???

Ok, enough for now but a few pics to answer the above would be much easier than spelling it out. You know "A picture is worth a thousand words" thing.

Thanks and keep up the good work.

Les

Thanks Les
i use 3/16 plywood for the insides.
the walls all interlock and are removable

I use a farm tractor to lift them in place.
it takes about an hour .
This house has 2 " holes so this one can be cleaned with tongs.

Thanks again Les

Hi everyone
Here are two more houses just finished.
They are both made from 150 yr old reclaimed barn wood.
