Beautiful work. I have a new respect for birdhouses. I've seen circus people who could live in some of those. Here in VA there are alot of people who would buy your product since they love to feed in the cardinals. I hate the mess that comes with them but the market is definitely there.

Here is another extreme birdhouse almost complete.
It is made from 120 yr old reclaimed barn wood.
It is 5 1/2 ft wide and 4 1/2 ft high.
The roof will be finished with steel ( not sure the colour yet)

Nice bird houses!!!

You might try Google SketchUP its a 3D CAD and its a free Download.

http://sketchup.google.com/

If nothing else you should be able to get started with CAD.

Have fun.

Your welcome John,

Please take note that you should also view tutorial as well as the flash video on the full version site that is not free. It will give you some additional pointers on how to draw things.

I personally use a different CAD program and it does every thing I need to do when it comes to drawings. Been using it for about 15++ years. It is no longer available and I don't see a need to get into a new CAD program that I would need to re-train my brain. It is 2D not 3D. When I saw this one from Google I had to try it. And may I say for a FREE CAD Full working version it is very good.

Hope you can make some good use of it. It may not take you too long to get the hang of the interface since you are new at CAD. For myself I find it a little difficult because all my drawings have been in 2D and the 3D is hard to get my brain around.

On the other hand maybe it is my brain that sees things in 2D and not
3D and just can't do the cross over.

Any how hope it all goes well and you can make some more cool birdhouses.

Later,

Les

Thanks again Les. this program will at least give an idea of what exactly i need to look for. i guess it would help if i took at little more time to jot things down once in a while just to make things a little easier.
i am doing an article for a major woodworking site here in Canada and i have to get 1 of my houses on paper soon.
thanks Les.

Again you welcome John,

Just another observation on the 3D SketchUp software. I personally find it a good tool for conceptual design work. When it come to draw something that is a real world object I find it difficult to use. It may be that left brain - right brain thing that some people think is important in one way or another.

Either way when you get your bird house's on paper post the link here it would be nice to see the work.

Later,

Les

Hey John,
Another nice looking job, simply amazing. I know you've done plenty of those, have you ever had the opportunity to see if one of them was totally occupied?

John,

Thanks for posting these. I really enjoyed looking at the pictures, I would love to see one of these in person, I bet they are stunning.

I especially like the waterfall, very cool idea! Do you have any pics of it with water flowing?

-Joe
