Exterior Job

Hello, thought I would post a couple pics from a job I am about in the middle of. As it is a beautiful post and beam, I did not frame it. I have done all the exterior on this house, 1600s.f. porch, had to frame all the returns, sub-fascia/ladders etc. trim siding, shingles........and oh yeah, it's about 4 minutes from my house. That doesn't happen to often around here.

Here they are:

Re: Exterior Job

Very nice. I love all the wood.

Is there any insulation above the post and beam or just roofing?

In Vermont I would think that would be costly to heat.

I hope they don't put gutters on it.

Dave.

It has "panel" walls and ceiling, 7 1/4" "foam" with OSB on both sides, wires, and sheetrock. The other day it was about 90 degrees here, very humid, and this house has a black roof sitting in the middle of a field and it was about 60 degrees inside the house, I couldn't believe it. Yeah, no gutters, they don't hold up to well around here.

Re: Exterior Job

I give those IKO shingles about 12 years on the porch without gutters to break the water fall off the upper roof.

Well, we will see what happens, they are a 50 year shingle. Not my design, I would never shingle a 3 pitch to begin with, and the snow and ice concerns me a bit more than "the water fall off the upper roof".

Re: Exterior Job

What's happening with this post? Looks like it's sitting half off of the footing. Is there any hardware holding it down?

You see it half off, I see it half on. Of course it is fastened, how far would it move anyway? I did not pour the tubes, as you can see it was a bit off. Thanks for letting me know though.

Re: Exterior Job

Sorry bro, I did come across a little abrupt there. Picking on other people's work is really not my style. It's just that it wouldn't fly with the Inspectors around here in earthquake country. We need to use post bases with at least 4" of concrete around all sides. I agree, if it's strapped down with a PB of some kind it's not going anywhere.

Didn't mean to critisize, won't do it again. I'm usually a pretty helpful guy like most of us here.

Nice looking porch. Roofed porches like that are nice, wish we had more of them out here in SoCal ..

No problem at all mang. Oh, first off we don't have a lot of "inspections" round' here, and I layed the tubes all out, twice, marked a 2' square hole then connected the dots with orange paint, big feet on the bottom so he dug a pretty big hole and not once did he get any tubes EXACTLY where they were suppose to be. Topper is he had the same print I had........

We actually had one in 2001, I thought the train went off the track, lasted about 6 seconds maybe? seemed like 30.
