Deck Builder ?

I am in the wood restoration business and was wondering do most of you deck builders’ stain and maintain your work after you build them?
I am starting to move from restoration jobs to new deck built jobs.
I work with products like wood tux & ready seal and my quality of craftsmanship keeps the customers coming back. I wanted to work for all of the deck builders in my area and I was wondering what do most of you do after you have built your masterpieces? Do most of you sub the work, do it yourself or maybe give the lead to someone set up to do that work?
I would really like to know what would be the best approach to the deck building guys to let them know I'm here and would like to make there work stand out and also protect it. Can anyone give examples of how you have chosen you sub and or how it happened? I’m willing to hear all ideas.
Thanks.
Dan

Re: Deck Builder ?

we got out of maintaining decks. we just build them now. our experiances were that people werent often happy about paying to maintain their deck, and i reflected in thier atittude. on the other hand most people are happy to have you there building their deck. and also scheduling is tougher due to weather affecting the finishing work. but if your patient and want to stay involved with all of your work than do it. it is still work i suppose.

Re: Deck Builder ?

If it was profitable to maintainfor builders, more deck builders would be doing it. Deck care takes the handling of diferent chemicals and equipment than deck building, as you probably know. I think thats why there are restoration companys like you that do wood, and concrete preservation.

I really thought you restorers got all your work retail.

Interesting thought however.
