Here is my latest work. This bookcase is 10' long x 4' high. Has 12volt recessed lighting for top shelf and shelves are fully adjustable

That must suck, 1/2 and nobody posted.....you must be wondering what is wrong with your work. Nice work. Who put all of those useless outlets on the wall?

Are the shelves held in place by 1/4" pins, or if not how do you move them?

Nice work.

Too bad that baseboard heater is sitting right on the tile. I'll be rusty in a few years.

Looks pretty good, just don't put any books on the top shelf. Too much light kills books.

Floor mopping and damp floor, brother, rusts heaters. Keep 'em up a smidge.

Bathroom heaters rust, no matter what you do. Replace it. They're cheap.

Nice job. Just a suggestion... Glass shelves would let the light shine down all the way down.

Re: Custom 10' Long Built In Bookcase

Thanks for all the feedback. The top shelf is lighted for showing off their trinkets. The remaining shelves will be packed full of books. Mixing the galss and wood would not have looked good in this situation. if this was simply decortive and would be having more nick nacks throughout, full glass shelving would have been used.

This is in an office, those outlets to the left and right of the heater will be used once the rest of the furniture and equipment is moved in place. Code also stipulates that you need an outlet on every wall and every 6'

As far as keeping the baseboard up off the tile, I am not sure just how that would look. These are Hydronic baseboards, not that that makes difference, but I have never seen baseboards rust anywhere EXCEPT in a bathroom. We keep them flush with wood floors as well and never had any rust out. Wood floors are washed the same as tile, at least in my house they are. I'll let you know if I ever see any rust

Cool. So, they have their own waterfall inside, to self generate their own power? That's awesome. I'll take a dozen.

Hey MD,
I was back there today and took a closer look. They are not on the tile. The two edges are plastic and hold the metal center up off the tile a smidge, just like you said. Take a look.

You should consider pulling those useless outlets out and put them in the bottom of the bookcase...

Only two are outlets. One is a data comm and the other is a blank plate. Code requires the outlets to be where they are.

Old job and a bit crude. The objective was plate display, the entertainment center was secondary. This is a remake, the ID screwed up the first design and I had to cut it all down. It's a 22 ft. built-in.

Teetor, all I see is a hormonal teenager, a slammed door and china bits all over the floor.

Ts, the lady later crashed with her walker, broke her hip and didn't make it 2 yrs.

md, that was my first/only use of water poly varnish. It was spec'd by the ID due to time restraints. You can see why I don't like the stuff. IMHO, it looks like the plastic that it is. I can also make oil look like a mirror but it's not going to happen in 3 days.
