i think you are wrong and should go rip out 1/2 of your work....it'll give you something to do during this recession

Re: Current Jobs

At the resturant in Green Brook building a "back-lit coffer" for the dining room in Bridgewater...

Smaller crown is going to run around the inside and rope light is being placed inside....

And here is my question, I was not sure of which way to put that crown.....so I looked in a book and it shows it the way I have it...I was always taught the cove/detail goes to the bottom... granted there really is no "cove" at either end, but there is detail...however that detail was shown to be the top...

Glad I can help because this is pretty important to guard against arc flashes caused by short circuits and ground faults that could lead to calling the fire department.

314.19 Boxes Enclosing Flush Devices. Boxes used to en-
close flush devices shall be of such design that the devices
will be completely enclosed on back and sides and substan-
tial support for the devices will be provided.
Screws for
supporting the box shall not be used in attachment of the
device contained therein.

You may have seen white box extenders used in kitchens when there's a space between the front of the box and the finished material, tile for instance. 2" 6/32 bolts aren't good enough. I wish I had a picture I could show you.

Re: Current Jobs

So here I am dying of Swine Flu, so I was up all last night and got to thinking....that back lit coffer for the dining room, the plan was to put a bead of contruction adhesive along the top edge of the large crown and use trim screws (the good kind like in McFeelys) to screw it up into the joists. In theory is should work, the crown forms diaphram strengh. But what I got to thinking about what the pull out of the trim screws...the crown is UL MDF.....I could up that to exterior screws with the wider heads, with some prep work I can fill those holes... The goal is to run the inside crown, install the lights and slap it up as one unit....

Thought I posted this last night.
If it were mounted on the walls,
that would be upside-down.
For this, looks goos from here.

Trim screws should be fine,
but I am no MDF diva.

Re: Current Jobs

Don't look at the taping job too hard....the electrictions came and removed the outlets but the cut outs where still there. The GC asked me to put blow out patches in there last minute knowing all I had was a 1 1/2" puddy knife.... It it what it is....

They still have to come and wire up the two sconces and the coffer.... but I am done here....

I need a camera with a wider angle for photos like these, It was too tight to get a good shot of anything really....

and for the hell of it, this is what my truck usally looks like at end of jobs....a packed cluster.....

Very nice touch TBFGhost. How much wood did you hit in the ceiling?

Re: Current Jobs

I hit every joist up there so 11 feet worth on each side...

The only thing I was not able to get was the 4' ends, so I am just letting the Phenoseal take care of that.

For just a piece of wide casing run on the Hussy, a 5 1/4" crown and a smaller crown ripped down to whatever size it ended up, it sure gets alot of attention, but in reality it is really simple...
