Re: Crown Moulding

In all fairness they just moved in, the whole back section of the house was framed (roof) with 18ft 2x6-----30ft right to left, the roof was like a trampoline, we came in over it with 18ft 2x12s

Of course it is chair rail, Gene. How else are the Ho's going to protect their wall/ ceiling if someone throws a chair up that high?

Re: Crown Moulding

I was a job last summer and the HOer showed me his great work. He really liked the profile of the crown at HD so much that he used it everywhere. Cased the doors, base.... wherever. Never mind the bevel on the backside. Caulk it? I can't believe some of these people.

don't laugh I had an "experienced trim carpenter" do that on a job once. Just once I fired him on the spot when I saw what he had done.
Also had a union carpenter with 20 years of mollwork experience so he said install 300 feet of crown molding upside down.

Re: Crown Moulding

I seen a trim guy hang entire house of crown upside down and colonial casing on doors and windows backwards.. almost tripped on my lower jaw when I walked in.

Nothing a little caulk can't fix.

Re: Crown Moulding

A customer installed crown in his bathroom and wanted a price from me to do the rest of the 1st floor with the same type of crown.

I looked at his work in the bathroom and said "I've never installed it like that before. Do you want a price to install it upside down or right side up?"

By the way. That was a great post Gene. You got all of us looking twice at that one!!!
