Re: Built In Hutch
Oh, that is easier than I thought. I thought that I needed two holes and both had the plastic devices. Only the front gets the device and the hole goes in the drawer. Even I could do that, without the CNC
For full adjustment the holes need to be accurate, but you could be 5/32" off and still get half the adjustment out of it. Usually the adjustment I need is on the order of less than a 64th inch. It is so frustrating that you can see a 64th witin the 3/32 so easily.

Re: Built In Hutch
Its not that hard to get real close.
You Know how far from the bottom and right and left of the front they are cuz you just jig bored them. Rip a piece of 1/4 ply the right width for the distance from the frame to the center of the hole and the correct length so you have the distance from the side of the opening to the hole. Two jigs in one. Mark the corner and drill. Use an awl to get the bit started for the most accurate bore. Obviously that is only for your normal flush inset job. Similar techniques for other construction methods. |

Re: Built In Hutch
No literature? Getting the holes to align isn't that much of a problem. Just got no pictures of what it looks like - you got me curious.

Re: Built In Hutch
It's Blum Leo. I bet you have it.
Go to their web site. If I was at work I would snap a pic for you. Your Blum insertion machine can do the drilling with their bit to. |

Re: Built In Hutch
Not on the site or I just couldn't find it there. I don't have all the Blum literature, just what I was interested in and what I use. Never even thought about using the DF adjusters.

Re: Built In Hutch
Leo,
Get those blum adjusters. You don't need to match holes. I used to get the adjusters in bags of 500 I think it was. Blum also sells short steel dowels with a sharp tit turned on the end which fits perfectly into the hole drilled into the drawer front. You just stick the steel thing into the hole, forget the size now (20 mm I think), position the front in the opening with the drawer closed and rap the front with your hand. The tit on the dowel marks the position for you to drill the hole in the drawer box for the machine screw that goes from inside the drawer box into the plastic thingie. All that's needed for this is a battery drill, and it can be done on the jobsite. I once machined a bunch of sharp stainless tits that screwed into the adaptors themselves for a friend who had a huge CNC cabinet operation who wanted to insert the plastic thingies prior to finish coating, so there would be no chance of scratches. But more importantly without having to have the drawer boxes already installed. It gave him vastly increased flexability. The things I made for him worked like a champ, and I got a great deal of free CNC work out of it. You got to start using those things, believe me. Found the marking dowels, but I would buy everything from a cabinet plywood distributor where you can get large quantities cheap. http://woodworker.com/cgi-bin/fullpr...FRhinAodfheSNw I used to get them from CT Plywood, but you probably need an account to buy from them with a State Sales Tax ID#. Used to anyhow. Cheers, Jim

Re: Built In Hutch
Notice the price that woodworker's supply wants. Nearly 50 cents a piece.
I got them from our wholesale supplier for just under half of that and still cringe when we use 100 of them at a time. They are nice though. I keep saying that |

Re: Built In Hutch
I would get them at Atlantic Plywood. No problem about the business credentials to purchase them.

Re: Built In Hutch
The mortise is 3/8 of an inch. I guess you'll need at least 1/2. Gus, where do you order from. I have Woodworker's Supply cabinet maker's discount which drops sometimes 30% of what it is listed in the catalog. Can you give me any of your suppliers?

Re: Built In Hutch
That is very competitive here. There are several wholesalers that beet down the door trying to get some crumbs.
But my favorite sales guy is the "Italian Stallion" for Charles McMurray. http://www.charlesmcmurray.com/ He gives me case pricing on everything even for onesies and twosies. Company policy - free shipping for orders over 400 bucks. I call by 4:30 and its at my door when I get in at 7:30. If you end up calling one of the inside sales guys, ask them if they know an outside sales guy that goes by the name of "the Italian Stallion" ![]() He is a legend in his own mind |
