The gable looks out of place, but your carpentry and finish look GREAT. G

Re: Built In

I am with Gene on this the work is top notch but the gable seems to be out of place. Unless there is something in the room we can't see that helps it blend in. If not it looks out of place for some reason. Like an after thought to cover something up

Re: Built In

I agree about the gable. Oddly enough, the original specs called for an arch top. I talked them out of the arch but they were not budging on the gable.

The ceiling is 18'-20' tall in this room and they wanted to break up the monotony of the large wall with the pediment. To each his own. I can't see it from my house.

You wouldn't say that if you saw the treated lumber we get to work with. That southernyellow pine blows as soon as it starts drying. What kind of woods are they using for trims and stain grade?

Nice unit Rizzo!!

about "Mission" style wood work

Re: Built In

It bothered me all the people calling it a gable, glad to see the guy that built it knew what it was called.

Very nice.
If those are outlets in the top boxes, should go with brown receps and cover plates. that way if they are not totally blocked they won't be screaming at you.

They are speaker terminals. I thought of making some of stain grade material but didn't get around to it.

Re: Built In

Great craftsmanship and good detailing.
Did you make the fluted moulding?
With the flash of the camera I can see the backs have some veneer telegraphing through to the surface. Are the backs made with veneer core ply? I find that with an mdf core that rippley telegraph thing pretty much goes away.
Granted that that pops more with your flash than under natural light but I thought someone of your caliber might appreciate a friendly comment.

The gable is only missing a vent :-)
