Bath Vanity

Just finished this shaker style bath vanity for a client. Hope to install it tomorrow. Will install their pulls when I deliver.

Re: Bath Vanity

This is obviously a free standing vanity meaning it can not go against a side wall. How many bathrooms do you run into where the vanity is pulled away from a side wall? How far do you pull it? What do your customers do with that space? Do you put skin backs on your vanities or cut for plumbing in place?

You seem to be fond of shaker style. It happens to be my best seller too. Shaker is in now.... though I could not give away white cabinets for free. Off white has some interest especially with glazing.

Looks nice Rocky. What are you using for drawer slides?

Re: Bath Vanity

Jimmy Cabinet - This vanity is not free standing; it installs against the left end wall. If you look close at the bottom toe kick you will see the solid left side that goes to the wall. So far I have not run into many free standing units. This vanity will not have a back because the HO is redoing the plumbing to change from a single bowl to double. Since the rough in will have valves it will be hard to install a back and make it look nice. The client always picks the color for their stuff; this white was their choice.

Leo - Thanks for the complement. The drawer slides are Topslide 3/4 extension 100 lb slides mounted midway in the drawer side.

Re: Bath Vanity

Delivered but had to wait on plumber to do his thing before I could install. Finished today. HO has more work to do in bathroom i.e. base molding, chair rail, mirrors, lights, etc.

OMG! HO is doing some of the work herself! ;-)

Nice job on the cab. Describe the hardware used, and the finish procedure, if you will.

Re: Bath Vanity

Thanks Leo!

UpNorth - Yeah, HO is pretty handy with stuff like that. Would rather do it than pay to have it done. Hardware is brushed nickel with no mortise hinges and mag catches. Drawers are 3/4 side mount slides. Finish is pretty simple; primer and 2-3 coats of Behr semi gloss. On all the horizontal surfaces I coat with water based poly for a little more protection. When I don't spray a finish with HVLP I will put it on with a high density foam roller. Laugh you might but it really does put on a pretty good finish. One of the reasons I like the roller is that if it gets nicked in delivery it is easy to touch up on site. A sprayed finish is a little more difficult for me to do on site.

Re: Bath Vanity

OK Leo, I'll bite. What would you suggest? I have had as good a luck with Behr as I have had with any paint. I am always willing to learn and improve. I value your opinion and advise.

Re: Bath Vanity

I'm glad you have good luck with it. Take a look here and see why I reacted that way.

Re: Bath Vanity

Thanks Leo for the heads up on Behr. I have used many different paints and to me for my kind of stuff Behr works as good as the rest. Am I just weird or what? I am open to any recommendations on paint choices. I am all for saving time and work even if it costs more in the long run. Come on guys, cough up some good paint brands that you have had good luck with!

Benjamin Moore - oil based - Iron Clad.

I may suck at painting but I know a good paint job when I see it. Anything that gets painted on site, I want to see this paint used. My own cabinets are painted with it.

White painted, I use Sherwin Williams, Cab Acrylic with a vinyl sealer in wet areas like baths & kitchens. Everything's sprayed.

Didn't the republic of Kalifornia ban oil based paints?

Well Gus is pretty far out so oil is still common in his neck of the woods.

In this side of California (Los Angeles) you can't legally spray that stuff in an uncontrolled and ungrounded environment (job site) and you can only get it in quarts. There are other great waterborne alternatives such as Sherwin Williams Pro-Classic or its more economic alternative "Solo-gloss", On the Ben side we got either Aura or satin impervo. All four of the aforementioned products are great choices that work well for me.

Behr sucks.

Sorry, just came across this post. Couldnt agree more with you Gus. I started using the Ben Moore Iron Clad a few projects ago and the stuff is great. A bit strong smelling but sprays great and is amazingly durable.
