Window Casing

When I case and trim out windows I some times use laminate (white). I first cut ¾” plywood to the depth off the window seal attach laminate to the edge and router off the extra overhang cut to length with a good bladed chop saw and screw them in place. Rip laminate a little wider than needed chop to length glue down router off the edges and finish with caulk. My reasoning for doing this is the window seals won’t fade like wood and should hold up to water better than sheetrock. Does anyone else do this or does anyone see a problem with this?

Re: Window Casing

Are you referring to how you cover your sheetrock returns? If so, it sounds like a good idea since condensation kills the sheetrock over time and UV rays kill the finish on wood.

Re: Window Casing

I don't even wrap the windows with Sheetrock, I apply the plywood straight to the window seal. If the window isn't square you can use shims to square it up. By wrapping the edge of the plywood with laminate it leaves a nice reveal once the trim is installed. I really like the look, no screw or nail holes.
