Dave - you bring up a good point in regards to warranty and service.

I know with Viwinco, they offer a lifetime glass breakage warranty - no questions asked.

So True DavidC,

And I understand that stress is directly related to Alcohol(or visa-versa),so your supplier made an honest assumption.
Who needs more red tape?

Re: What Would You Charge For Labor On A Replacement Window?

Good post DavidC. I do try to shop at local lumberyards, and often find their prices better. I just wish they were open late as that is when I buy my materials and do bidding. I use them mainly when I'm doing large projects when I can't afford anything to go wrong. Tomorrow I have to go fix rot on 2 windows and a slider door, and I know I can get whatever I need at Menards, even though I absolutely abhore them.

I looked into the Viwinco, but there are no dealers where I live. Best window I've ever used was a canadian manufacturer, and a great price as well, but they stopped selling in the USA

Re: What Would You Charge For Labor On A Replacement Window?

the price you should charge for labor on replacement windows depends on many factors. The most important is knowing your overhead and then dividing it by how many man hours you work in a year. That will give you your cost per man hour that you work. multiply that number by how many hours you think it will take to install the window, and there you have your cost per hour. If you have employees you will want to add their rate of pay to that number, and lastly you will want to add any profit that you want to make and that the market will allow.

I'm new to these forums and I just noticed I only touched the tip of the ice-berg on the number of forums. I didn't see the windows forum further down.

I am in KC. And for your standard window they only give the guys who put them in $40.00/per. It goes up depending on type and complexity.. but your basic 30X45 (just a number) is $40.00 for the install (paid labor to do the work). I know that is the going rate here.

do yourself a favor, if you are a professional contractor or specialize in home improvement/window installs... become a dealer/reseller for the window manufactuers of choice. in return you get a sales rep to deal with. never buy box store windows for customers as a sole source. those box store windows are good for instant or one time replacements, on large jobs.... you need your own window account or a good window sub working with you. you'll end up making more money, getting your windows quicker and have less problems with responsbility shifting/warranty issues.

Re: What Would You Charge For Labor On A Replacement Window?

I've been doing window installs since march for my Anderson dealer, I've been getting $ 125.00 Labour only for insert (vinyl with no interior trim)type windows. I get $225 for a complete tear out, they provide the window, trim, caulk and capping material. We pick up windows deliver tear out clean up and deposit all garbage in bins in their yard. So far we be doing alright! Bought my new trailer and outfitted it got a return on my investment within 5 weeks if memory serves. On most days I can install two complete units with the HO in my back pocket, clean up and dump garbage by myself. BTW I get $50 extra per unit for the second floor. Good luck!
