What Cordless Power Tools To Buy! Need Heaps Of Help!! Please

Hi I'm a first year mature apprentice in the carpentry trade and I'm just about to buy my first set of cordless power tools. I've narrowed it down to four brands! In Australia by the way ?

Milwaukee
Makita
Dewalt
Bosch

I know they are all really good brands, well to my knowledge anyway ?! The problem is can't find enough advice and specs to make a final decision because once I buy one I want to stick with that brand. For me I really want reliability, I know power and speed is a factor but there's no point having them if the tool won't last.

I just want to know peoples experience with these brands, absolutely every bit of information will be greatly appreciated. Pros and cons, ups and downs, issues and how easy they were fixed. All that information will help me, I just want reallly good tools that will last and do an awesome job

Thanks to all
Brent! ?

I like Milwaukee. Think they're all pretty good but have always liked their quality and now have brand loyalty.

make sure you are brushless . i figure the extra cost for brushless saves on battery cost very quikly . by the reviews i have been reading makita is now at the top .bosch the bottom . but they all have different features . look at the platforms ,what they have in there line up . you will have the set you pick for along time but you may change platforms .i have makita ,milwaukee ,panosonic and dewalt .just ends up that way due to wanting a particular tool .i try not to be brand biased . i am tool biased .
i really believe you could loose out if you stay brand loyal .
do not be afraid of the more home owner brands ,they work ,they serve a purpose .can save you money as you start out .

I prefer and have mostly Makita but I wouldn't stick to just one brand that's a mistake.

I have all 4 of those brands (sold all my m18 tools, kept the m12 tools) my primary tools are makita and dewalt (20v and 60v). Limiting to just 1 is silly, I think 2 gives you flexibility.

Are all of the same battery types interchangeable? I ask because we're going to be getting more cordless tools and one of the reasons we're sticking with Milwaukee is the batteries and chargers will be similar.

I was under the assumption that each different manufacturer has a different sort of connection but it would be great to be wrong on that, if they were all similar, like a USB port.

Re: What Cordless Power Tools To Buy! Need Heaps Of Help!! Please

Like most people said, it's hard to narrow down to one brand. When I first started my tool collection, I bought the Dewalt set. A few years of buying tools and I own Dewalt, Milwaukee, Festool, and Porter Cable (18GA Cordless Nailer) batteries/chargers.

Each brand has different strong and weak points. For example, Milwaukee has some of the best lights on the market. However, I do not believe Makita offers a quality selection of lighting. On the other hand, Makita just came out with a cordless track saw and an amazing cordless blade left 7 1/4 circular saw, while Milwaukee does not offer either yet.

Although it does seem like a lot to invest in different battery platforms, you will soon find the investment paying itself off.

The new line of dewalt cordless nailers is really really good. Their impacts hit hard. Bought their 15 gauge cordless last week and it sinks nails in oak BETTER than my pneumatic.

Huh? No they are not interchangeable between brands and sometimes within the same brand. That's the drawback with going with different brands you have yet another battery platform. I see it has a bigger drawback trying to stick with one.

I disagree with the idea of having several brands when it comes to cordless. Stick with one brand. The only off brand charger I carry is for pasload. Not because I don't have other stuff. I just replaced it for battery continuity.

My post was to mean they are pretty competitive. Unless you run a big shop, sticking with one brand makes battery management easy. Each brand does have its strengths though. Dewalt especially for nailers and the most powerful saws.

Milwaukee has a 7.25 in blade right and a 6.50 in blade left. Great little saws and extremely light. I can hook them on my bags and free up my hands if needed.

Stick with one of these three and you will be fine. Just try to stick with brushless

Part of it would depend on what you can get on sale or best deal at the time.
I myself like Makita overall.
But Dewalt nailers are better so I use them.

Milwaukee
Makita
Dewalt

Never bought from this site myself. But here is a link to a great deal if you can get it.

Makita was the original cordless from what I can remember, of the popular brands they still rule

Milwaukee is Techtronic (TTI)......they make Ryobi....in building #2 in beautiful Hong Kong...(Republic of China)

The yellow stuff you can have....thet're all about the marketing....all fluff and no stuff

Bosch? I'd stick with their corded....they make excellent roto's and their older EVSK jig saw was second to none...the new one sucks
