Tough Frame

For some of you seasoned carpenters the frame of this three story addition probably wouldn't scare you. But it scared the hell out of me. After six months apprenticing as a carpenter my mentor left the country and I assumed his role leading the frame. Two things made it especially challenging:
The site- a steep hillside made getting material in place a headache and the trees and overhead lines made it impossible to use a crane.
The design- the architect laid the addition out on some acute angle that made for weird spaces and hard cuts.
Positioning the 25' glulam ridge beam was the peak of anxiety. We used material lifts to get it close then blocking and muscle to heave it into place. At one point we almost lost control of the beam, we were pushing the limits of safe building pratice.

Re: Tough Frame

Nice work. There is a thread in the framing forum called Random Framing Pics Thread. These pics would be a nice addition there.
