Termite Damage On Girder In Basement, ??? On Fix

My friends house has termite damage that he had taken care of in the garage and it also got at the girder. Now, upon first inspection, the damage that i can see is on the from the point of contact on the basement wall to maybe 2 feet back away from the wall. I couldn't tell if the other two panels of the girder were affected just by probing at this time. If it turns out to be just one side of the girder, how would you fix? I'm assuming i would have to jack the weight off the girder at that point.

You can build temp support wall on both sides of the beam, from ext wall to first support column, cut out beam and replace.

If you are making a new cut at the column, make sure the plate (if its a lally column) will support both beams. Might need to get a larger heavier plate.

If by panel you mean a 2x in a built up beam. just remove the affected 2x and replace.

Yes, the girder is actually (3) 2x10's or 2x12's together running the the length of the house. I didn't measure what size they actually were.

Jack up the existing beam just a bit, build your temp support walls. If you have any point loads coming down to the beam where your working brace them as well. Leave yourself a little room to work. Then replace what you have to.

Termites are good at eating their way down a piece of wood without breaking the surface so check the other 2x's as you get to them.
