Re: Tape Measure Preferance??
But no matter what kind of tape it is, don't you just LOVE it when you get that 1/16" crack in one edge, at about the one or two foot mark? And you keep using it anyway, because it's an old friend.

Awsome! I loved that show!! I bought a bootleg version of the series, can't wait until the real DVD set comes out. thanks, Malco for tha' video! FATMAX, 35' all the way... However if Stanley continues to take their factories out side the US then I'll have to find another real American brand. |

Re: Tape Measure Preferance??
30' fat max for the belt, plus a spare in case it breaks
several 25' pro locks for the truck, house, backpack, ect. 6" vernier calipers for the really precise stuff Engineer's and Architect's scales I've been looking around for something better than the fat max tapes, particularly for trim work, I'm considering the tapes made by Starrett, Stabila, Irwin, and Tajmia. I'm also thinking a bar gauge would be handy. Quote:

Re: Tape Measure Preferance??I will...they are coming from NY, I am in NJ....they were shipped on the 22nd USPS Priority Express Mail or whatever....I am thinking they should have been here today, so Monday for sure... BTW, nice hand...I was always afraid of that happening, so my old friends didn't last too long...but it did piss me off when I had to get a new tape...even if it the same brand and model there is just something about getting used to it again...maybe I am crazy.

Re: Tape Measure Preferance??
I got an interesting one for we were instaling 3/4" t&g on the wall and had the outlets pulled out so we could slip behind or pull them through. Anyway I took a long measurement and the tape bent and when it fell it landed on the wires slid to the front towards the outlet and bam burnt two half moons about an inch apart. Craftsmen tape and it broke right there (about three months later) and they took it back no problem
nice on on the hand I bet that took super glue and duct tape |

![]() Not my hand (Google Images pic I lifted), but believe me, my hand's been done worse by my Stanley Fat Max Extreme tapes. ![]() Coming from "where" in NY? I'm in NY. And tools are like people & cars. They have souls. Some are good. Some are bad. I just realized that I still managed to hold on to a tool that "wasn't" stolen from me...a chisel that has a rasp surface on both sides (it was the first of it's kind) that I bought 10 years ago. It's served me well. Whenever I've whipped it out to cut then rasp something, the inevitable "where'd you get that?" would come up. I'm going to stop allowing my tools to "grow feet" and walk off of my sites.

Ahhh...it looks like they are still going to be made by one of my favorite tools companies..."US Tape".

Re: Tape Measure Preferance??
I just got a 35 ' stanley but don't like it, must be bad it sticks al the time. I always have my fold rule in my pocket or pouch. Use to have an 8' fold rule but can't find one anymore.

I just bought the Tajima 25'. Nice tape so far. I also got one of their auto-rewind chalk line rigs...still in the packaging, haven't taken it for a test drive yet. |

Re: Tape Measure Preferance??
fatmax 25' for everyday use
fatmax 35' for exterior walls 25' floppy noodle orange tape(Maybe lufkin?) for finishing. Any tape that has a nick in it is tossed in the trash, My fingers are way too valuable to slash them up for a $25 tape. 2 weeks ago I almost cried, I had a 2 hour old fatmax that got the corner nicked in the mitre saw, It's life span was 2 hours. |

Re: Tape Measure Preferance??
Which one did you get the yellow one or the red one...I gotta say, I have been using nothing but my 3/4" wide 16' tape since I got it. Only used the 25' tape a few times.... granted I have been doing trim work.

Re: Tape Measure Preferance??
30' Fat Max for everyday use, they don't last long enough through. I
Remember when your stanley tape would break they would replace it for free, those days are long gone I guess |
