If you have to use that hardware then do something a little out of the ordinary with the gate.

I did up a bowed gate idea that tapers as it approaches the middle of the span. This makes it quite strong in most directions and decreases the weight as it gets farther from the hinges.

This is not flushed out for maximum strength and construction mind just an idea.

I would prefer not having a wheel if possible, but I would have to calc. out the weight and do a lot of actual design on a gate like this before I would make one.

Then I would know if it needed a wheel or not.

thanks for all the replies guys. its gonna be a couple weeks till i get them built. waiting for a final OK. from the owner on design, then have to order lumber then build and stain. so ill post when i start, thanks again .
