Sandblasting Vs. Dipping?

I'm renovating a historic shotgun home in New Orleans.

I want to refinish the hardwood floors (2000 sq.ft.) and baseboards (200 lft), windows (8), doors (5), and beadboard ceilings (2000 sq.ft.).

Also, the wood siding will need sealing/ painting.

Would sandblasting be a good option for all of this work? If so, what type of equipment would I need?

Any links or advice would be much appreciated.

Emily

sandblasting is generally a poor option for interior woodwork, even if you use plastic blast media or baking soda. The condition of the wood after this abrasion is not suitable for fine finishing.

Do you know if the doors and molding are hardwood or soft? I think chemical stripping is really the way to go.If there are any painted surfaces, you may may have lead issues, as well.

I've heard of using corn cobs and or wallnut shells for blasting wood!

Any kind of blasting is verboten! It will abrade the soft, earlywood much faster than the harder latewood.

Use a heat gun and 1" putty knife. Heat painted surface until it bubbles then scrape it with the knife. Wear a respirator as to not breathe in toxic fumes.

Re: Sandblasting Vs. Dipping?

All of your answers may be true, but when you have a need to remove paint from wood beams in a huge building like North Pier Terminal in Chicago, which was once a huge warehouse, that was turned into a shopping office complex, with all the old wood beams and floors exposed, blasting is the only practical answer. The building is over a block long and 8 stories tall, and is 2 blocks from historic Navy Pier..
