Soffit : Flush to cab or overhang
Flush Soffit: We prefer a flush soffit - not as much finish on the corner next to cabinet and a trim can be added if so desire:
We Use a 2 x 2 on the ceiling as a cleat, cut 1/2" ply / osb and screw to cleat then add a bottom cleat to bottom edge. The cleat is at 11" from back wall. Then we add a cleat on wall and cripple in 2 x 2's every 16" to 2 ft or so
We hold this back 1/2" for drywall to be added
For Soffits that overhang - we use same method and usually have a 1 1/2" overhang with the drywall - Usually have to have the soffit completely drywalled and taped, finished before cabs can go in.
Flush method above can even be done after cabs are in.
