For an "average job" the prices are fair.

Re: Pre-hung Door Question Guys

A couple of questions:
Why would you sub this out? (with only 6 doors, I can understand if you have never installed doors before, which I am assuming)

Where are you located? Prices will be different.

Lucky for you I have some free time waiting for a delivery today.

I'm sure you read the 1000's of post on this site about average prices and going rates. Both terms really don't mean much! I can pick up the phone now and get prices from $100-$1000 for any install labor. You can get great workmanship at any price level, you can also get poor workmanship at any price level. I just paid a very low price to a great roofer because his business is dead in the water due to no marketing, two years ago his price would of been "too much".

In reference to you prehung door labor price, the price depends on a bunch of factors. Most of my subs can install a "basic" entry door in 3 hours, some jobs take 2 hours and some jobs take 4 hours. If they have 2 or more doors on the same house they can reduce their set up time and travel time. If I send them to *** supply house to pick up the door and then travel an hour to the job the 3 hour job is now a 6 hour job.

In your case are the doors on the job site? How about the trim? Does the installer have to dispose of any job related garbage? Will homeowners or other tradesmen be in the installers way? Are the doors good doors or are they el-cheapos that require and extra 1/2-1 hours of playing with to get them to work? How much business does the GC give the sub/installer every week/month/year? How prompt is the GC with payments? Does the GC hound the sub over material issues when the GC buys crappy materials? Is there parking on the job site or does the installer/sub have to walk for blocks? Who's pulling permits? Who is meeting with the inspector? For the interior doors, who is painting/staining them and how long after the install so the sub/installer doesn't get call backs for the doors expanding and rubbing?

Back to your original question, if the conditions are good a professional door installer might be able to install all of the products in a day making the price "fair".

Re: Pre-hung Door Question Guys

Don't take this the wrong way but I spent 12 minutes of my life typing post #5 of this thread and you failed to read it. Sometimes I think Mr Diggler and others are asses for giving people a hard time about pricing questions and now I know why. If someone really wants to learn about pricing this site is a great resource to learn what goes into a price. If you are to lazy to read and comprehend I am to lazy to share.

Good day.
