Pocket Door Removel ??

OK hears the question ;has anyone ever removed the door of an already installed pocket door ? It needs to be ajusted up to accomedate the new tile,But for the live of me I can't see any easy way to do it.Did they design them to never be removed once installed or am I missing something here.

remove the trim boards on either side of the door (on the side where the door pulls from) CAREFULLY... Use a razor knife and score the paint and then a thin scraper or drywall knife to pry them out...
Then the door will swing in the opening... swing it as far as you can to the wall then lift it out of the track (the track is usually like a J channel where the wheels just kinda sit in the track). Make necessary adjustments then reverse.

Very simple really once you get the trim boards off..

Not always a "j" channel. Stanley makes Pocket door hardware that has 4 wheels on it. It's actually a "U" channel. It's a better system then the old two wheel system. The old two wheel system were bad for falling off track. The stanley 4 wheel system doesn't come off the track it actually detaches from the wheels by a lever on the top where the wheels meet the track and door. That part of the lever is actually attached to the door. It's been around for quite a few years so depending on how long ago the door was installed you may want to take things slowly see what type system you have.
Sometimes those doors just come off track by closing the door almost all the way so most of the door is visible, then lift up on the handle and trying to take the wheels out of the "J" channel bracket. Those wheels have a tendency to break so becareful. They actually mount the same as the double closet doors that slide beside each other.

Yes, pocket doors are a bother to fix, You have to literally take them apart to adjust them. Take the casing off and then the jam from the side the door pulls out from and then one of the top pieces of jam. Then you should be able to take out the door by sliding the safety connections on top that prevent the door from popping off the rollers.
