A pocket door rides higher than the stop moldings. You would have to create something to lower the door and at the same time release the top rollers and while a pivot device engages to pivot the door...................... yeah it could be done but as Mickey said "what's the point" ?

I forgot about the "hinge side stop moldings" they would have to move because the door is wider than the opening. Also the bottom guides might be in the way when it pivots.

He might also be insterested in a sink that has the water coming from the drain and existing into the faucet.

Just thought of something, is this for an entertainment system, if it is, they do make hardware for that.

Re: Pocket Door That Also Swings...???

This idea exists- my Grampa's old house had it. Unfortunitly it was a long time ago that I saw it, and I don't remember how it worked. Perhaps my dad will remember.

the entertainment center doors wouldn't be heavy duty enough, but you could use the idea, along with some heavy duty drawer slides to get a similar setup.

The only other way I can see doing something like that would be to hang some kind of frame off the pocket door rollers, that would have a vertical bar coming down that you could hinge your door to. perhaps then you could get a doorknob that would run a bolt into the upper frame to hold the door shut.

Well, I guess I really forgot about how my Grampa's house- turns out that they don't swing
also, any hinges to hold the door would have to be some kind of hidden hinge, so that nothing hangs out to catch on the slot for the pocket door.

Re: Pocket Door That Also Swings...???

I just installed two of these in a laundry closet in a townhome. The HO believed that the existing bifolds were not in keeping with the value of the home, plus, the hallway was so narrow that you could not walk by the open bifolds with a load of laundry.

The hinges are shown on page 810 of hafele (dot) com's sliding roller shutter catalog. (Sorry, not enough posts to post the link). The HO was able to find two for ~$925 each. I mounted 33 x 80 inch solid pine doors on them.

Once you figure it out, they were not too bad to install. They slide beautifully as well.

Gary Katz also did an article on these a few years ago...
