Oak Newel Posts

How do you guys do your newel posts at the bottom of a stair railing? I notch mine around the angle in the wall cap and leave the cap whole, but I used to have no problem doing the notch w/ one bevel cut on my mitre saw and 2 cuts with a 7 1/4" circular saw. I'd have to dress the cut w/ chisel, files and belt sander but still took under 20 minutes on average. Now a guy borrowed my circular saw and bent the saw body/base, can't ever get the cut right anymore.

Buy a new saw. I had the same problem cutting a doorway on the second floor. The saw kicked and we both fell around 15 feet onto concrete. I came out a little dinged up but the saw was warped. It is a Makita and I had it patched up for rough work, still running today.

Now you know why you never loan tools!
And you have the perfect excuse to buy a pair of Porter-Cables.
One left and one right!
