Need Help Pricing Jobs

Hi All,
I am new to this site and new to being in my own business. I am skilled in many carpentry & building trades but, am not to familiar with going rates of local carpenters/contractors. I am in the state of Connecticut and would like to know how I go about finding out what local carpenters & contractors are charging for different jobs. For instance, I am bidding on some window, door & base molding work but am a little unsure how to be competitive, do not want ot over/underprice myself. Any suggestions.

you should search the posts u will find tons of threads. But it all leads back to YOUR cost of doing business. You dont want to be the same price as a guy w/out ins. if you have ins and so on. Figure out what you need to make a decent living and bid accordingly.

It doesn't matter what "everyone else is charging"- you need to know what your costs of doing business are, and charge enough to cover your costs. If you charge less than that just because "everyone else is charging that much", you'll be working at Home Depot shortly. Once you find out how the market reacts to your pricing, you can always ratchet it up slowly until the market won't bear any more- that's not called "overcharging"- that's called "market economics".
