Nail Lite Siding Install

Anybody out there install nail lite siding on a regular basis? What are your thoughts on the product from an installation/water-tightness stand point?

Hi Gordo
Can't say I work with it on a regular basis, but I did redo my chimney with it 3 years ago (brick) and from the ground and curb looks pretty damn good, it took a helluva lotta finness to get the corners to work out good, but with some nails in the joints and finished off with the mortar caulk, pretty impressed so far, I'll try to get some pix, a real B$%^H to cut though.

Re: Nail Lite Siding Install

I install it from time to time, - - it's every bit as watertight (or more) than regular (vinyl) siding, - - of course, that means 'watertight' in the field, - - but ya' better pay attention to the 'trim' details. Great stuff, though, - - really 'thick'!!

Re: Nail Lite Siding Install

Nail lite is much thicker, nicer and yeah $$$$ cost more double but worth it. the only thing Id pay alot of attention to is 1. temp when in-stalling like regular siding, spaceing is very important. 2. leveling must be paid attention to regular siding is flexable, nail lite is not so if your off by 1/4 or more forget about it, when metting the door jams & window surround.
3. Cutting in cold tempature, scissors dont help use a circular saw with a backwards blade, or a grinder with a tile saw blade.4. waterproofing is important, since naillite doesn't have holes like regular siding on the bottom for some water to escape when it does get through. well if you have other questioned feel free to send a message . Oh heres a pic of a house I just finished 2 weeks ago.

Sounds like we use the same techniques. I like to use window wrap (a flexible water-proofing tape) around the windows before we install the nail lite. How many square is the back of that house? We are 3/4 of the way finished with a 37 square D-4 vinyl tear off with nail lite install. The house is a two story mansard with lots of inside and outside corners with short runs. Lots of dormers, too. Man those things can eat upsome man hours. We are on schedule to finish Tuesday (11 days total with three men). From the looks of the back of that house we probably could do it in 5-6 days with three men. How long did that take you?

The back was like 12 sq I not sure but the whole house was 35sq.
Yeah tell me bout it man hours, but you had 11 days. I had 5days total finished in 6 days total 3 men. two of us nailling one doing the cuts for us.
I made this table outta woods with j-channels as guides for a circular saw to
cut three pieces at the same time. Cuts alot of time, ofcourse they sell it but for $800-1200. Did you mean 5-6 days just the back! sorry I don't mean to act like its easy I do naillite alot. I already know what to expect and practice helps out, also my help has the same practice. Here another nail pic 16 days I was scared on this one all naillite.http://www.contractortalk.com/attach...1&d=1140414389

Re: Nail Lite Siding Install

Yes, I meant 5-6 days including tear off and taping/flashing all windows. Probably could do it in less without those extras. Its always different when you see the job in person. Do you do much hardi-plank siding? We have a 40 sq. job we are starting in 3 weeks. 8 inch cedar style on two story with wrap around porch (4200 sqft.). Nice other pic. We could have done that in 9 days. LOL.

Don't get me wrong I wasn't getting at your time considering I haven't seen the pics, Now hardi plank I've done it but probably take me longer that you
get my drift you side more in hardi plank right, well i side more in naillite. . That house had cedar shingles tear off, and capping was not included add one more day. ok I'll now.

Oh, - - that (other) pic was from about 20 years ago, - - the one up there now is the 'real' me and was from just a few months ago, - - I posted a thread about why I 'HAD' to change it in the 'OFF-TOPIC' section called 'Patt-ern of Abuse'.

Then all I did was get 'MORE ABUSE'!!

Oh well, - - more to come, I'm sure!!
