Mixing New And Old
I was curious as to if many here get the chance to add old architectural components to new construction and how it worked out.
I had these bases and columns sitting around for fifty years. My father had taken them out of an old appartment building he had. When I built my house I pulled one out of storage and it fit perfectly into the opening where it now sits, albiet unfinished, since I want to match the trim on the opening to the same wood as the unit. Pretty sure it's old growth SYP. I used the column design for the porch posts also. Yea, The ugly dining area light was from my old family home of forty years, put in more for nostalgic reasons.

Re: Mixing New And Old
I like it. My brother mixes old with new with great success.
Takes an artistic eye. Nice. |

Re: Mixing New And Old
Love doing that, I have used old leaded glass panels to create window transoms, i have also salvaged old columns similar to your project

I love it, but the doors look upside down?

Re: Mixing New And Old
I actually like that alot. It's different. Not cookie cutter. I can't recall ever seeing a column like that.
