Miter Clamps

I am looking for the spring clamps that you use for miter joints. What is the best brand and where did you get them from? Do they leave holes where the ends clamp the wood? Do you just use wood filler on them? I'm not having alot of luck searching for them online. Thanks

Re: Miter Clamps

I use the clamps and pliers from Collins. Good product by a trim carpenter (the same guy makes the Collins Coping Foot, etc.).

The holes made are very small, like 18 ga. or smaller. These clamps are one of the best tools for the money, IMO.

Re: Miter Clamps

Thanks guys. I just ordered 12 of the collins tool clamps and the pliers. Seemed like a better clamp than just a circle.

Re: Miter Clamps

all I've ever used are Ulmia. I have a set like this. But when I bought them 6 years ago the set was $110. Deal then. Seems a bit steep now. I use them all.

@ 33 a doz, pretty reasonable too. Just order 2 doz. Biggest thing I'm lacking in the shop are clamps...

Re: Miter Clamps

I have the Ulmia style clamps and the collins clamps. The collins clamps work much better and leave a much smaller hole.

Re: Miter Clamps

i like the maestro clamps better the pliers are much nicer than the collins . the collin would be nice if they had a spring in the pliers

I like the pliers. They are just stamped metal, rather than cast, but they work well enough. With some skill you can get by without pliers, but I still prefer to use them.

In case someone wants to work without the pliers, here are pics that show how to use the clamps without them:

1) Set a point.

2) Pull the clamp open across the miter and set the other point.
