Installation Costs?

I have the opportunity to bid on installation of crown molding, trim and installation of interior doors for over 50 apartment units (1-2 bedrooms, same layout otherwise). All materials are supplied, strictly a labor quote. All crown molding has corner blocks and standard trim package on entry doors. Closet doors are by-pass and standard baseboard. I would do this without any additional labor.

I've seen prices of $1.75 linear foot for installation of molding/baseboard. Units are approximately 107 linear ft = $187.25. Right now I'm assuming same cost for trim. I was figuring $50 for installation of bypass doors and $75 for interior doors including trim. Two of each in a typical apt configuration. So, total labor costs are $624.50 per unit.

Are these fair prices? I've just recently gone out on my own after working in the industry for someone else for 20+ years, so I'm not current on the latest rates and don't want to be the low/high bidder.

You're going to get the same answer that people with that question usually get......."how much do YOU NEED to make(to cover... overhead, taxes, insurance etc.) is how much YOU NEED to bid it." Seems pretty low to me.

Re: Installation Costs?

Why do we have the "lowest bid " process? Take one apt at a time. Estimate how long it will take you to do one. Multiply by hourly wage, & overhead & profit & multiply by # of apts.
We all have different lives. You need to do your homework to know an hourly wage you need to make (including your overhead & profit) so you can make a living . Someone elses' overhead may not be the same as yours so how are you gonna compete?
Don't go by what they charge. Be smart, not cheap.
