Garage Floor Decking

hi
I'm getting ready to frame in my garage floor . THE question is after I put down vis queen is it OK to put Doug fur floor joist on top of or does it have to be pt . I know my plate has to be but I was just told from a builder that you can not use pt inside a house because of fire and gases emitted.

What do you mean frame your garage floor, why isnt it concrete? do you have a crawl space under it? you are going to drive on a wood garage floor?

Re: Garage Floor Decking

If you are on plastic, Doug fir is fine for the joists. do not use acq for the joists.

ps, dont rip every floor joist to conform to the old garage floor, hang the system a little high, and shim to the concrete floor as required, there will be no direct contact to the garage floor with the fir. you can rip shims out of acq if you wish..

Re: Garage Floor Decking

I would go with PT joists. I have never really heard anything about the gases or anything like that nor have I ever had any problems with the PT. Just make sure when you nail your plywood down or wall plates, ect., you use gavinized nails aproved for treated wood, especially if its ACQ. I'm still gettin some of that down here.

Re: Garage Floor Decking

I might even suggest you bring the plastic up the walls, about an inch above the sub floor to be sure no moisture gets in there. (assuming theirs no ventilation underneath)

Pressure treated joist is just
asking for trouble.
You don't need PT,
you don't want PT!
It's interior, we don't do interior
framing with PT, especially YP.
It will have shrinkage issues.
It will warp while it dries.
It will leave excess unnecessary
moisture in your under floor.
No PT joist.

If you need extra grief in your life,
just tell your wife that the jeans
do make her ass look fat.

Re: Garage Floor Decking

use super 6 poly and red tape it!cover the floor and leave some (about 3 inches )up the wall. You should get yourself some acoustic seal and run a bead about 2 inches up the wall then push the poly tight to it. build your subfloor and enjoy. lasts 20 years on average.
