For one door I will use a chisel, but two or more makes it worth getting out and setting up the jig. You won't be sorry you took the time to learn, especially with multiple doors.

Re: Fitting Door Hinges Jig Or Chisels

Hey guys... I 've been thinking about getting a door jig for a while. So far the most common ones that I find are the Porter cable and the Bosch kit. Any imput as to which one is prefered or if there are other kits that do well?
Thanks
_Matt

i think it would be better to make a jig because if you use the same ones you can make for that and if your buying the hinges get the curved edges so you dont have to chisel the corner.

I have both jigs( bosch and Portercable) I probably prefer the portercable, but they both work excellent. I see the new portercables come with 4 jigs in the kit, which is a must if you hang any 8' doors. Good luck

Get jiggy with it. I use the Portercable for $20 including bit. It is fast and easy.

I have the Bosch for several years. The decision maker for me at the time was the fact that once you had the spacing set up, you could switch from right to left hand by simply flipping the stop on the templates, whereas the PC had to be completely reset. I don't know if this is still so or not.

My most used is still the little black plastic PC individual jig, same as the Carey. For a couple of doors on a house, I don't think it is worth the bother to set up the multi-template jig.
