Difference Between Rough And Finished Egress Window Size

I'm cutting an egress window into a foundation and am trying to figure out the difference between rough sill height and finished sill height. I figured there is about a 4" difference between the rough opening in the concrete foundation wall and how much smaller the opening will be when it's all trimmed out/finished. Is that about right? (I need to know because by egress code the floor to bottom of the finished sill can be only 44" with a max 7" step-up from the finished floor.)

Thanks.

Look at the window specs for the sill height, or hire a contractor.

Without all the product specifications, your question cannot be answered.

Look at the installation specs on the window. What is required for installation.

What will your finished floor be. What will it add to floor height.

You're going to have to build this on paper before you build it for real. That's why we use plans and specifications.

Re: Difference Between Rough And Finished Egress Window Size

finished sill is from the top of the finished floor to the top of the actual window units sill which can sometimes be as much as 2-3 inches above the actual stool of the window sill depending on the window you go with. It also depends greatly on the building inspector, some include that 2 inches or so on the window frame and some do not. Some can also be real sticklers about how easily the screen/ sashes come out. Hopefully its a walk out basement cause the issues involved with wells and ladders and such can be a pain as well. The last one I did fell under the towns construction control rules which required an engineer sign off on all the plans... Ask your window manufacturer for their "clear opening" spec chart so you can figure everything out
