Cultured Marble Counter Top

i am installing a vanity in a bathroom with a cultured marble counter top that needs to be scribed to the wall. What is the best way to do this? can i use a belt sander? Thanks for any help on this one, i have never worked with this material before.

Sure, coarse belt on sander... or use a right angle grinder...

It machines with regular woodworking tools. I cut cultured marble all the time with a carbide tipped blade in my circular saw.

True, but he is probably safer to work to a scribe with a belt or disk sander, as there is less chance of the back edge of the blade causing a chip in the gel coat. If the wall is that bad that the thickness of the splash won't cover the gap, it is not going to be easy to make the splash look good against the wall without a big caulking gap somewhere, some mud work may be in order here.

Re: Cultured Marble Counter Top

just wanted to say thanks again guys. The counter top is in a corner that isn't perfectly square so i had to scribe the side of the countertop. Did it just like wood countertop, scribed line and used belt sander. Turned out perfect! Thanks again for sharing your knowledge with me on material i never used before.
