Cordless Or Pnuematic?

I know theres different applications for both..just seeing what the preferences are. I love my paslode for hanging pre-hung doors! No hoses in the way..just my levels and a bucket of shims. Obviously you would need a compressor for a 23ga. micro pinner for detail stuff/kitchens and for production framing with a few guns going. Anyway, whats your opinon/preference?

Re: Cordless Or Pnuematic?

I like the paslode when my brother lets me use his... But everything i own now is pneumatic, I have alot of $ invested in them, guess i'm afraid that they'll just hold down the shop floor if i bought some airless!!

Depends, if its ladder stuff like crown, or a small job, I like my Impulse.

Hard to beat the versatility of a compressor. I travel with 5 or 6 guns, but that includes my micro pinners (2).

Impulse angled finish nailer, 18 gauge brad nailer & framer does 90% of my work. I let the guys use my pneumatic roofer & sider 'cuz they're going up on the roofs...not me. I'm in the bubble doing finish work.

Re: Cordless Or Pnuematic?

I've got the paslode 16ga angle finish nailer, 18ga brad, and the framer. Just like tcleve said, they do about 90% of the work. No hoses, no compressor in the already packed truck. But for roofs, big decks, or a bunch of framing I get the ole air guns out.

Paslode Trim and the Framing gun are the frist ones i grab out of the truck. If I am parked on a job for more then a week I might go get the compressor.

A while back i saw an airless roofer by dewalt i think. kinda pointless and cumbersome. Probly good for repair work cuz you cant bump nail it. This is back maybe 6 or 7 yrs.

Re: Cordless Or Pnuematic?

We use dewalt cordless finishing nailers, but air for framing and pin nailers, only because dewalt doesn't make a cordless pinner yet (but I'll be the first in line for one when they do) and I just can't bear to buy a paslode framer based the lack of a consensus on them. It seems for every person who likes their paslode there is another who hates it. I've never seen such a tool with so many people on both sides of the fence. I would love to be 100% cordless on everything. Cordless saves a lot of time in set up and take down in my business.

Paslode all the way. I can't believe guys use air for anything except for major framing.

I remodel and frame 3-4 story 3-5K sf homes all on paslode framers and finish guns.

I have not use air in over 7 years

I bought a Paslode framing gun about 8 years ago. It was the most inconsistent POS tool I had ever owned. Never jammed, but would just not fire a strip of nails consistently. Always missed two or three in a row no matter how the depth was set. Sent it back to the factory for service, got it back, within two usages, same thing happened.

Maybe I had a lemon, but I saw the same complaints posted in a lot of places. That thing is now a $400 paperweight. And everything I use is pneumatic. I'm not saying that's the way to go, and I haven't tried other non-air fastening tools since. That was just my one and only experience with it. I'm used to the compressors and I use the small hoses now.

Re: Cordless Or Pnuematic?

I absolutely love the Paslode for framing, but I have to admit that there are times an air gun is better. They're capable of more punch; necessary when driving into something that's a bit floppy or into extra hard wood. I'll still hand-finish quite a few Paslode shots before I'm willing to break down and get myself all tangled up in that hose, though.

Re: Cordless Or Pnuematic?

LOL,

Case in point. 1 for em and 1 against em.

I think a big problem for us with the paslode is with a average job running 7 days and basically 1 day of use per job of a framing gun, that works out to 4 days of use per month.

I think I recall people have better luck with them if they use them consistantly, especially the battery issues.

If you want it all, this is the set up.

I have demo-ed them before, it is a really sweet set up. If I would have know about these years ago this is the route I would have went.

Actually, I do believe that the Paslodes fire with more speed than pnuematic guns. Not in regards to refresh rate though.

Re: Cordless Or Pnuematic?

Maybe It's a weather issue??

I have not seen a compressor on a remodeling site in years. No one uses them around here. If you showed up to a job with a compressor here people would be confused.

As long as you clean them regularly and spray them down maybe once a week I have never had an issue.

Definitely not refresh rate!

On three different occasions, I've found myself working a Paslode beside someone with a pneumatic, and theirs definitely had more pizazz. Of course that may vary depending on make/model.

Re: Cordless Or Pnuematic?

palsode all the way, everything rory said
its a routine maintainence issue plain and simple
clean and lube it once a week, zero issues

one other sweet thing about the pasload framers is the tip works out perfectly for shooting in hanger toenails

that prebrena setup is pretty sweet, what are thoes charged to??? 3000 psi??? yearly dot inspections to get filled???, I'd be afraid to drop the damn thing, sweet setup though. have a ****load of dive crap from my comm diving days, might set up a 10cu' bailout bottle and miller harness and HP/LP regulator for hanger nailing operations
